Regarding Bamboo and Blood: No, I never really felt like I knew for certain what was going on. I wondered if that was deliberate to give one a sense of helplessness and futility like the characters in the book seemed to feel.
I like mysteries. I like trying to solve the puzzle(s) they present, or at least seeing the puzzle solved in the end. This mystery seemed to continue - no tidy ending. I guess that's why it reminded me of several of David Mamet's movies. They twist and turn and emphasize the vague rather than the specific.
I would like to read more of James Church's Inspector O mysteries to see if they're any different.
Thanks for the recommendation of Bradley K. Martin's book. I had not heard of it, but now it's on my wish list at PaperBackSwap!
